WHAT IS 2D, 3D and 4D ULTRASOUND?:
2D- is a regular ultrasound in 2 Dimensional format which means it only takes pictures from one angle at a time (flat image). 2D sees through everything including the skeletal structure to the organs hence it is the main choice for Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound. The image is black and white and often grainy in appearance.
3D- In 3 Dimensional format everything becomes solid in appearance. The 3D image is projected from 3 different angles, software merges these together to create the 3D image. 3D still images show the curves and rounded shape of the baby's body and limbs.
Some businesses will offer 3D imaging with movement, this is multiple 3D images replayed to give the appearance of movement and there is a time delay.
4D- (Scroll down to view 4D Videos)
4 Dimensional ultrasound creates a whole new and exciting dimension to this service and represents the difference between video and still photography. Through this revoloutionary technology, 4D adds the element of time. The result is live action images of your unborn baby similar to the process of taking direct video footage. With this technology our machine offers Speckle Reduction Technology which also gives a higher quality image.
Quality and quantity of images and video depend on the pregnancy week, the mothers hydration and baby's position at the time of scanning.
For best results drink extra water 3-4 days before the scan to ensure there is plenty of amniotic fluid surrounding the baby. You do not need to drink excess water directly before your appointment.
If for any reason the scan is not successful (ie: because the placenta or umbilical cord is in the way) between 20 and 30 weeks, a total of one future appointment can be made at no extra cost.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF 3D AND 4D ULTRASOUND SCANS?
3D and 4D ultrasound is a wonderful early bonding experience for the people in your baby's life as it encourages curiosity, support and increased excitement for the pregnancy and the mother.
4D imaging gives viewers an increased feeling of baby reality which is especially wonderful for the father and the baby's siblings as it also makes them feel more involved in the pregnancy. Viewers usually feel a strong sense of closeness and connection with the baby as they watch his or her beautiful real time movements come to life on their tv.
As a mobile service, we meet you at a location that you feel comfortable in which helps you to relax and enjoy the moment in a non-clinical environment. As a comparison to your regular scans, you can invite family and friends to share this precious experience rather than only one or two extras at a medical centre.
CAN I HAVE MORE THAN ONE SCAN?
Some parents choose to have multiple 3D 4D scans at selected dates throughout their whole pregnancy. This is a great option if you want a full 3D 4D pregnancy diary to keep and show your baby/child years later.
20% will be taken off the cost per additional scan.
ARE 3D and 4D SCANS SAFE?
3D and 4D ultrasounds are as safe as 2D ultrasounds which have been used since the 1970's. The images are projected via soundwaves moving from the inside of your body and is reflected as an image. The 4D probe is different to a 2D probe in that it sends more soundwaves but less per minute. It literally maps the babys body and converts that information into live real time imaging. There is no research to suggest that ultrasound is unsafe. In 2002, the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) issued a statement confirming that there has never been any evidence of harm resulting from the use of ultrasound pregnancy over the past four decades. To date The American Institute of Ultrasound has not claimed any harmful effects associated with the use of sonography either. Millions of people have used this service worldwide and there has never been cause for concern.
As a mother of 3 I would not pursue this business if there were any question of safety. Personally, I had two 4D scans with my last daughter and she is 100% perfect!
This particular Ultrasound Scanner has been cleared for use by the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods. It has had excellent reviews by physicians and surgeons throughout Australia and overseas.
WHAT IS NON-DIAGNOSTIC ULTRASOUND?
3D and 4D NON-DIAGNOSTIC ULTRASOUND does not replace your reccommended DIAGNOSTIC ULTRASOUNDS as advised by your physician. We do not give you any diagnostic measurements that your physician will need. You must have at least one diagnostic scan completed through referral by you physician at your referred imaging centre before you can start your BabyView scans.
Scan Process:
Setup of the system can take up to 10 minutes for the machine to boot up and connections to be made to your tv. During this time or before my arrival, you can help wake the baby up by drinking a cold fizzy drink such as Mineral or Soda water. Sometimes going for a brisk walk before the scan also
helps. If not, watching you baby sleeping is just as adorable!
The mother remains fully clothed in her own comfortable clothing that can easily show the tummy. Dresses are not recommended. The mother lays on either her sofa or a comfortable laying position at the location of her choice within 5 meters distance to the tv.
There is no need to push on 4D probes so the only uncomfortable feeling you might get is that of the ultrasound gel on the belly.
A good position needs to first be found in 2D mode before 3D and 4D is obtained, this can take a few minutes. Sometimes if the baby's position isn't correct, I may ask you move around for a few minutes. Once a good picture is shown you will start your amazing Baby Viewing experience!
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY SCAN?
You can book in at any time after you know your pregnant!
Scanning is recommended anytime after your first diagnostic scan however the best images can be obtained between 18-35 weeks, this depends on the features you want to see most.
Some like to have their first scan earlier as a bonding experience for themselves, their partner and/or other family members. This is perfectly ok.
For watching the body, legs and arms move freely, between 18-22 weeks is often a good time however the facial features wont be as prominant because the baby hasn't gained baby fat.
Between 20 and 23 weeks gender determination is available but this depends on the position of the baby, legs crossed etc.
From 22 weeks the facial features are more prominant and fingers and toes look more distinctive. The baby can be seen sucking his thumb, touching
her nose etc but this depends on how much room the baby has to move. From 24 weeks the baby gains fat showing better baby facial features.
Some say the best time is between 26 to 28 weeks and good viewing achieved between 29 to 33 weeks but it's entirely up to you.
Keep in mind that the further along you are in your pregnancy, the less room your baby has to move therefore scans are unpredictable from 33 to 37 weeks.
GENDER DETERMINATION, IS IT A BOY OR GIRL?
Between 20 and 23 weeks gender determination is possible but this depends on the position of the baby, legs crossed etc.
CAN I MAKE PAYMENT INSTALLMENTS FOR MY SCAN?
Yes, we can arrange a suitable direct deposit payment plan for you leading up to your scan date. Full payment must be recieved by the appointment date. Please contact us before making any payments so we can keep track of your account. Payments can be made using the account information on the contacts page or full payment by cash on the day.
CAN I HAVE A 4D SCAN WITH AN ANTERIOR OR POSTERIOR PLACENTA?
Posterior Placenta's are ok for 3D and 4D scans as the placenta sits at the back of the womb & to the back of the baby's body.
Scans are recommended from 26 to 28 weeks for Women with an Anterior Placenta as it can block facial features with lack of space.
WHAT DO THE SCANS LOOK LIKE?
Remember, each baby is an individual so each scan will also be uniquely special in his or her own special way. Try to relax and enjoy the baby's adorable show for you without having an expectation of gaining the perfect picture.
We suggest looking at You Tube videos of the weeks you would like to be scanned so you have an idea of what the scans look like. An image gallery of 3D images is provided under the IMAGES tab on this website.
To watch 4D footage you can do a search through You Tube using the title 4D then the WEEK or I have included some you may want to look at below:
